At AriHana Kyoto, we offer a wide range of unique toys that you can only find here. In addition to traditional Japanese toys like origami and kendama, we also feature fun games such as Daruma Otoshi (stacking toy) and Fukuwarai (a game similar to a pin-the-tail activity), which are simple yet incredibly entertaining for all ages. Our space is not just for children—there are also picture books that adults will find enjoyable, making it a perfect spot for families and groups to have fun together. Whether you’re spending a short time on a rainy day, looking for a break during your trip to the airport, or seeking a fun activity for an entire afternoon, our venue is open to you. No reservations are needed, so it’s easy to stop by anytime during your sightseeing or when you have a free moment. We also offer hands-on experiences, where you can try your hand at creating traditional Japanese toys. For example, even small children, including babies as young as 0 years old, can enjoy making their own fans (uchiwa). Whether you’re looking for a cultural experience, a playful space for kids, or a relaxing spot to unwind, AriHana Kyoto has something for everyone. It’s the perfect destination for rainy or cold days, or any time you’re looking for a fun break during your travels. We look forward to welcoming you!
Traditional Toy and Craft Experience in Kyoto: Fun for the Whole Family
Yesterday, a family with two young boys, aged 4 and 2, visited us from Osaka. Even though they live in Japan, it’s not often that they get to experience traditional toys. They were full of curiosity, exploring and playing with all kinds of old-fashioned toys. In addition, they had fun trying their hands at origami and making paper fans (uchiwa). But it wasn’t just the children who had a great time! The parents also got to relive their childhoods, enjoying games like kendama, yo-yos, and Fukuwarai. It was a lively and joyful time for everyone. Thank you to the family for visiting us at AriHana Kyoto – we hope you had as much fun as we did!

Today, an article about AriHana Kyoto was published in the Kyoto Newspaper (morning edition, December 4, 2024). We hope to make our shop more well-known and create a place where many people can come and enjoy themselves.
Recently, Itsuko-san from “ジンギスカン屋 桜こまち” and Misato-san from “やすらぎ山下整体療院” visited our shop. They had a great time playing with an English family and enjoyed various activities, including kendama painting and making kaleidoscopes. I also had a wonderful time spending those enjoyable moments with them.
Traditional Japanese games, which are becoming less common even among Japanese people, are incredibly deep and interesting—even adults can have so much fun with them.
The other day, we had a family from the UK visiting us. The little boy was very energetic and good at playing with building blocks. His favorite game was ‘Daruma-Otoshi,’ and he laughed heartily when playing with the owner. His mother enjoyed playing with origami and kendama, and she was also skilled at juggling. Thank you so much for visiting AriHana Kyoto.
