AriHana Kyoto is an indoor play space where children visiting Kyoto with their families can enjoy traditional Japanese games and activities together. We are delighted to welcome families from all over the world.
We are excited to introduce a new activity at AriHana Kyoto: Original Fox Mask Decorating.
Fox masks are one of the most popular items among our international visitors. With this new activity, children and adults can decorate a plain white fox mask with their own unique designs using paints and permanent markers.
There are no rules—use your imagination to create a colorful mask, draw traditional Japanese-inspired patterns, or design something completely original. Each fox mask becomes a one-of-a-kind creation.
This activity is enjoyable for both children and adults, making it a wonderful experience for the whole family.
Once completed, you can take your fox mask home as a special souvenir from your trip to Kyoto. Why not create a unique keepsake and make even more memorable family moments during your visit to Japan?
In addition to fox mask decorating, families can also enjoy traditional Japanese games and activities such as Origami and Kendama.
As an indoor facility, AriHana Kyoto is a comfortable place to visit on rainy days or during Kyoto’s hot summer weather. We hope you will stop by and enjoy a fun and memorable experience with your family.
No reservation is required, but reservations can also be made through our website if you prefer.
Q: Can adults join the fox mask decorating activity? A: Yes! Both children and adults can enjoy creating their own original fox mask together, making it a fun family activity during your Kyoto trip.
Families Connected Through Traditional Japanese Play at a Hotel Event
Yesterday, we held a traditional Japanese play event at a hotel in Kyoto.
Families visiting Kyoto from the UK, the United States, and other countries joined us, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere throughout the event.
For many guests, it was their first time trying kendama. Although they found it challenging, they continued practicing with enthusiasm. One of the most memorable moments was seeing families who had never met before celebrating each other’s successes and sharing tips on how to improve. Whenever someone succeeded, spontaneous applause and cheers would spread through the room, creating a warm sense of connection among the guests.
The children were especially impressive at daruma otoshi. While many adults found it difficult, the children repeatedly achieved perfect rounds with ease, drawing surprised reactions from everyone around them.
Guests also enjoyed a variety of traditional Japanese activities, including origami, tosenkyo, and fukuwarai. Each family spent time exploring the activities at their own pace and enjoying a unique cultural experience together.
One of the wonderful things about traditional Japanese play is that it can bring people together even when they do not share the same language. During the event, we saw guests naturally start conversations, encourage one another, and celebrate each other’s achievements. The entire room was filled with smiles and a warm, friendly atmosphere.
At the end of the event, we took commemorative photos together, and we were delighted to hear many guests say, “That was so much fun!”
At AriHana Kyoto, we share the joy of traditional Japanese play not only in our play space but also through special events like this. We hope this experience became one of the cherished memories of our guests’ trip to Kyoto.
Traditional Japanese Play for Traveling Families | FAQ
Recently, a family visiting from Israel came to AriHana Kyoto with their 10-month-old baby boy.
The energetic little boy happily crawled around the tatami room full of curiosity and energy. He especially loved the traditional Japanese beanbags and spent the whole time smiling while holding them tightly in his hands.
Meanwhile, his parents relaxed on the tatami floor, watching him play with warm smiles. Near the end of their one-month trip around Japan, they laughed and said, “We’re tired!”
AriHana Kyoto is an indoor family play space created by a former nursery teacher for families visiting Kyoto with children from around the world. We hope each family can experience Japanese culture at their own pace and create special memories during their stay in Kyoto.
