Yesterday, a family with two young boys, aged 4 and 2, visited us from Osaka. Even though they live in Japan, it’s not often that they get to experience traditional toys. They were full of curiosity, exploring and playing with all kinds of old-fashioned toys. In addition, they had fun trying their hands at origami and making paper fans (uchiwa). But it wasn’t just the children who had a great time! The parents also got to relive their childhoods, enjoying games like kendama, yo-yos, and Fukuwarai. Today, an article about AriHana Kyoto was published in the Kyoto Newspaper (morning edition, December 4, 2024). We hope to make our shop more well-known and create a place where many people can come and enjoy themselves.

Recently, Itsuko-san from “ジンギスカン屋 桜こまち” and Misato-san from “やすらぎ山下整体療院” visited our shop. They had a great time playing with an English family and enjoyed various activities, including kendama painting and making kaleidoscopes. I also had a wonderful time spending those enjoyable moments with them.

Traditional Japanese games, which are becoming less common even among Japanese people, are incredibly deep and interesting—even adults can have so much fun with them.

A Place for Kids to Enjoy

The other day, we had a family from the UK visiting us. The little boy was very energetic and good at playing with building blocks. His favorite game was ‘Daruma-Otoshi,’ and he laughed heartily when playing with the owner. His mother enjoyed playing with origami and kendama, and she was also skilled at juggling. Thank you so much for visiting AriHana Kyoto.
