They especially enjoyed origami, our Japanese hiragana wooden blocks, and colorful kaleidoscopes. When it was time to leave, one of the girls said, “I want to stay here longer!” — which made us very happy. It was a relaxing and joyful time for the whole family.

Yesterday, we hosted a Japanese cultural experience event at Nishiyama Ryokan in Kyoto. Although it was just a one-hour session from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, many guests joined us with great curiosity and enthusiasm for traditional Japanese games.

The most popular activity was Kendama! We formed a circle and started with the basic “big cup” technique. At first, many participants said, “That looks so easy!”—but once they tried, they realized it was quite challenging. However, as soon as they got the hang of it, they began to succeed again and again, celebrating together and even trying more advanced tricks.

In addition to Kendama, guests also enjoyed other classic Japanese games such as Daruma Otoshi and Tosenkyo. It was wonderful to see adults having just as much fun as children.
