Hinamatsuri Season in Kyoto | Family-Friendly Japanese Cultural Experience for Kids

2026.02.06
category staff blog

After Setsubun, it is customary in Japan to display Hina dolls for Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day).
Decorating Hina dolls after Risshun, the beginning of spring, is believed to bring good luck, ward off misfortune, and express wishes for a happy and healthy life.
With these wishes in mind, AriHana Kyoto has displayed traditional Hina dolls this season.

In Kyoto, Hina dolls are traditionally arranged in the opposite left-right order compared to most regions of Japan.
This reflects the ancient Japanese belief that the left side represents higher status, while the nationwide arrangement was later influenced by Western customs.

AriHana Kyoto values Japanese seasonal events and cultural traditions.
Located near Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Sanjusangen-do Temple, we are an indoor playground and Japanese cultural experience space where parents and children can enjoy traditional activities together.

Families visiting Kyoto can experience origami, Japanese calligraphy, and other hands-on cultural activities suitable for both children and adults.
It is an ideal place for families with kids and those looking for Japanese cultural experiences for children in Kyoto.

No reservation is required, but online reservations are available via our website.
